THE BEST THCA SMALLS ONLINE, COMPARED GRAM FOR GRAM - Lost In Translation

THE BEST THCA SMALLS ONLINE, COMPARED GRAM FOR GRAM

QUICK ANSWER: The best THCA smalls are whole small buds, sold with a batch lab report and priced well under full-size flower of the same strain. For ounce buyers who want a big strain selection and a lab result on every smalls ounce, LIT Farms is the best pick. Our smalls ounces list at $29.99 to $49.99, or $1.07 to $1.79 per gram, with the lab result attached to the strain listing.

A bag of smalls can be the best deal on a THCA menu. It can also be easy to confuse with shake when the two are sold side by side, and a low sticker price means little until you do the per-gram math.

Smalls sit in an odd spot. Buyers love the price, then start to wonder whether they paid for leftovers. Most vendors answer with the same line about identical quality, which doesn't help anyone compare.

We priced smalls across six online shops from their own list prices and looked at how easy each one makes it to find a strain's lab report. You'll also get the checks worth running when your bag arrives.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Smalls are whole buds sorted out of the same harvest by size, so they carry the strain's genetics and cure without the bag appeal of a top cola. Shake and trim are different products made of broken pieces and cut leaf, and at least one vendor sells them from the same dropdown as its smalls, so read the option name before you check out.
  • Bud size by itself tells you very little about potency, and the research is thinner than vendor copy suggests. A 2018 study found cannabinoid levels dropped from the top of the flowering stem to the bottom, so the number that matters for any bag is the THCA figure on the batch Certificate of Analysis for that strain.
  • Standard retail smalls ounces listed from $25 to $256.99 across the shops we compared, which is $0.89 to $9.18 per gram. Most of the ounces we priced sat between $1.07 and $3.93 per gram, and the only cheaper route was a full pound from a wholesale supplier, which means committing to 16 ounces of a single strain.
  • Our smalls list runs from $29.99 to $49.99 per ounce across dozens of strain listings. Browse our collection and order yours now.

WHAT THCA SMALLS ACTUALLY ARE

THCA smalls are the smaller whole buds from the same plants and the same harvest as full-size flower. They get trimmed and cured with everything else, then sorted out by size. Size is the reason they're priced lower.

Most smalls grow lower on the branches, where the canopy blocks more light and buds stay compact. You'll also see them sold as popcorn buds, minis or small buds.

On our menu, THCA small buds are sold as a 28 gram weight option on their strain listings, priced in our Essential tier. Where full-size tiers are available, they're listed alongside them.

WHICH VENDORS SELL THE BEST SMALLS

We ranked six vendors on four things a smalls buyer can check for themselves: list price per gram, where smalls fit in the vendor's tiers, how often the smalls menu restocks, and how easy it is to find the lab report for the bag you're buying.

For the price comparison, we took each shop's list price as published on its own site on September 2026, and divided it by the labeled weight.

We left out sale prices because they change daily, and several shops, including ours, run sales below these figures. Shipping and tax are left out too.

A wholesale pound is the cheapest route to cheap THCA smalls, as long as you want 16 ounces of one strain. For ounce buyers, the bigger saving sits inside each menu. At both Plain Jane and LIT Farms, the smalls ounce undercuts the premium full-size cuts per gram.

Full disclosure: we're LIT Farms, and we put ourselves first. We're not neutral, so every competitor figure comes from that vendor's own site, checked in September 2026. Where another shop beats us on a number, we say so.

LIT FARMS

LIT Farms THCA Smalls
  • Best for: strain choice with a lab result on every Smalls ounce
  • Price range: $29.99 to 49.99 per 28g (1.07 to $1.79 per gram)
  • Tiers: a 28g smalls option in our Essential tier, listed beside the full-size Essential, Preferred and Supreme ounces where a strain carries them
  • Smalls listed: dozens of strain listings in our Smalls collection
  • Restock: whole inventory turns over roughly every five days
  • Testing and COA access: lab results on every strain listing, plus a COA library
  • Shipping: free from $125, processed in 2 to 3 business days, unavailable in 17 states

Our Smalls collection spans Indica, Sativa and Hybrid strains. Because smalls are a weight option on each strain's listing, you can see which lab result applies before you pay.

We bag flower in an air-conditioned room held at 65% to 72% humidity. The buds can arrive softer than the dry retail flower some buyers are used to.

Where we fall short: the Backwoodz ounce and the Bulk THCA Supply pounds both list lower per gram, and a strain you liked on our menu may be gone by your next order.

Shop our Smalls from $29.99 an ounce, with the lab result posted on every strain. Build a cart of $125 or more and shipping is free. Don't sit on a favorite strain, though, since our whole menu turns over about every five days.

BACKWOODZ

Backwoodz THCA Smalls
  • Best for: the lowest retail ounce price, if you confirm you picked smalls and not shake
  • Price range: from $25 per 1 oz bag (from $0.89 per gram)
  • Tiers: one THCA Flower Smalls listing
  • Smalls listed: 27 dropdown options, 8 of them labeled shake
  • Restock: supply described as limited and updated often, with no set schedule
  • Testing and COA access: a COA collection linked from the listing rather than attached to each strain option, and a COA included with every shipment
  • Shipping: conflicting free shipping thresholds published on its site, $100 in the site-wide banner and $65 in other store copy, unavailable in six states, also ships abroad

Backwoodz, based in Covington, Virginia and established in 2018, keeps its smalls setup simpler than anyone else in the group, with a single listing and a rotating strain list.

The catch is the dropdown. Shake and smalls share it, so the lowest price you see may be shake. Pick the option by name, then find that strain in the COA collection.

OREGON HEMP FLOWER

Oregon Hemp Farms THCA Smalls
  • Best for: trying a greenhouse smalls strain in a 3.5g or 7g bag before you commit to an ounce
  • Price range: in-stock greenhouse smalls at 109.99 per 28g (3.93 per gram)
  • Tiers: greenhouse and full-term smalls sold in 3.5g, 7g and 28g sizes
  • Smalls listed: a rotating greenhouse and full-term smalls line, with many strains marked sold out when we checked
  • Restock: no schedule published
  • Testing and COA access: cannabinoid figures printed on each listing
  • Shipping: free over $85, with THCA unavailable in five states

Oregon Hemp Flower is based in Portland, Oregon, and names the grow on every smalls listing, greenhouse or full-term, so you know how the flower was raised before you pick a strain.

The Gelato greenhouse smalls ran $29.99 for 7 grams and $109.99 for a full ounce. Per gram, that's more than every ounce shop in the group except Bloomz, though the 7 gram bag makes it easy to sample a strain first.

PLAIN JANE

PLAIN JANE THCA smalls
  • Best for: comparing smalls, micros and trim side by side
  • Price range: indoor smalls at $45 to 65 per 28g (1.61 to $2.32 per gram)
  • Tiers: an indoor smalls line, a budget micros ounce, and full-size Exotic, Indoor and Light Assist flower
  • Smalls listed: a rotating indoor smalls line in 28g bags, with the budget ounce limited to micros when we checked
  • Testing and COA access: current COA shown for each strain option, plus a Lab Certificates library
  • Shipping: free over $99 by USPS Priority Mail, 24 to 48 hour processing, THCA ships to 31 states plus Washington, D.C.

Plain Jane is the clearest vendor in the group about what's in the bag. It separates smalls from micros and sells trim as its own product, and its budget ounce even carries a per-gram price.

Reviews on that budget ounce are mixed. Several September 2026 reviews mention seeds and dry flower, while others praise the value. The indoor smalls cost more, but each one comes with a named strain and a published THCA figure.

BULK THCA SUPPLY

Bulk THCA Suppy THCA Smalls
  • Best for: shops, pre-roll makers and anyone buying a full pound of one strain
  • Price range: smalls pounds listed at $350 to 600 (0.77 to $1.32 per gram), advertised from $250
  • Tiers: indoor, light deprivation and light assist smalls
  • Smalls listed: fewer than 10 smalls pounds on its smalls menu when we checked
  • Restock: inventory described as rotating daily
  • Testing and COA access: lot-specific COA with every pound, viewable before purchase on request
  • Shipping: no payment at checkout; a sales rep confirms stock and total, then orders ship 1 to 3 business days after payment

On paper, these are the cheapest smalls in the group. In practice, Bulk THCA Supply is a wholesale operation that says it works with licensed buyers, with a rep in the loop on every order and a 16-ounce commitment per strain.

For personal use, that's a lot of one flavor. If you do buy at volume, we also sell wholesale flower.

BLOOMZ

BLOOMZ THCA smalls
  • Best for: a short smalls menu with a COA file for every strain
  • Price range: 256.99 per 28g (9.18 per gram), with exotic THCA smalls at 329.99 (11.79 per gram)
  • Tiers: a standard THCA Smalls ounce plus an Exotic THCA Smalls ounce
  • Smalls listed: four strains on the standard smalls ounce
  • Restock: no schedule published
  • Testing and COA access: a COA PDF per strain, showing 24% to 34% THCA across the four strains
  • Shipping: free, with THCA unavailable in 12 states

Bloomz operates under the Binoid brand and keeps its smalls menu tight: four strains, each with its own linked COA.

Its list prices are the highest in the group, though both smalls ounces were on sale well under list when we checked (Bloomz site, September 25, 2026). Expect to pay less at checkout than the list figures.

PRICE PER GRAM: SMALLS AGAINST FULL SIZE

Smalls save the most when you compare them with the premium tiers of the same strain. On our menu, a Berries and Cream ounce lists at $39.99 as smalls and $139.99 as Supreme, while the strain's listing shows a single lab result for both.

The gap isn't always that wide. Against our Preferred ounces, the Amaretto Mintz saving is $10. Our full-size Essential ounces list at $49.99, the same as our priciest smalls.

The cheapest smalls start at $29.99, and the Supreme tier sits at the far end of the range.

SMALLS VERSUS SHAKE AND TRIM

Smalls are intact buds. Shake is the broken bits that fall off buds during handling and packing, and trim is the leaf and sugar leaf cut away when flower is manicured. All three sell cheap, which is why buyers mix them up, but you're paying for very different material.

FORMAT

WHAT'S IN THE BAG

HOW IT LOOKS

WHAT IT SUITS

Smalls

Whole buds sorted out by size

Pea to grape-sized nugs with their structure intact

Joints, bowls and blunts, same as full-size flower

Micros

The smallest whole buds, sorted below smalls

Tiny intact nugs

Rolling and pre-roll filling

Shake

Broken flower pieces from handling

Loose crumbs with no bud structure

Rolling when price per gram is the only goal

Trim

Sugar leaf and leaf cut off during manicuring, with some flower mixed in

Leafy, flat material

Edibles and infusions more than smoking

The fastest way to tell them apart before you buy is the option name and the photo.

Backwoodz sells shake and smalls from the same THCA Flower Smalls dropdown, with shake options marked in parentheses. It's labeled, but easy to miss if you sort by the lowest price.

DOES POTENCY CHANGE WITH BUD SIZE?

Potency comes from the batch, and the lab report is the only way to know what's in the bag you're buying.

Vendor copy across the category says smalls test exactly like big buds. The research is less tidy. A 2018 study in Industrial Crops and Products found cannabinoid and terpene levels fell from the top of the flowering stem to the bottom, and smalls tend to grow lower down.

That's one study on one set of plants, and more research is needed before anyone treats it as a rule. It's still a good reason to check the lab figure yourself before you take a vendor's word on it.

We publish ours on the strain listing itself. Berries and Cream carries the smalls ounce and the full-size Essential, Preferred and Supreme ounces together, with one lab result for the strain: 23.688% THCA and 0.2052% Delta-9 THC.

Other strain listings use the same COA setup, and we also file every batch report in our COA library.

When you open a smalls COA from any vendor, check four things:

  • The strain name, so you know the report belongs to your bag
  • The THCA percentage for that strain
  • The lab name and report date
  • A batch or lot ID you can match to the label on your bag

HOW TO TELL GOOD SMALLS FROM BAD

Good smalls look like shrunken full-size buds: intact, frosty, springy and loud when you open the bag. Pour the bag onto a clean tray when it arrives and run these checks before you grind anything.

  1. Structure. Most of the bag should be whole buds. A little loose material at the bottom is normal, but a bag that's mostly crumbs is shake.
  2. Trichome coverage. Zoom in with your phone camera. You should see a coat of tiny resin heads, even if lower-branch smalls look a little less frosty than a top cola.
  3. Moisture. Squeeze a bud. It should compress slightly and spring back, and a stem should bend before it snaps. Powdery crumbling means it's overdried, and spongy flower that won't snap is too wet.
  4. Color. Expect green with orange or brown hairs, sometimes with purple from the genetics. Gray or white fuzzy growth or obvious rot is a reason not to smoke the flower, so contact the vendor instead.
  5. Smell. A strain should smell like something, whether that's fruit, fuel, pine or earth. Hay, must or ammonia points to a poor cure.
  6. Seeds and stems. A few stems come with any bag. Seeds in most of the buds are a quality problem worth reporting.
  7. Paperwork. Match the strain and batch on your bag to the COA.

Because we control humidity at bagging, our smalls can arrive softer than the brittle flower many buyers expect, and that's deliberate. You don't need to jar them for a week before smoking, and a sealed jar keeps them fresh while you work through the ounce.

WHY SMALLS CAN SELL OUT QUICKLY

Smalls can disappear fast because supply is capped. Each harvest only produces so many buds in the small size, and when that batch is gone, its smalls go with it.

Price adds to the pull. Smalls are often the cheapest flower per gram on a menu, which puts them at the top of a budget buyer's list.

On our side, the whole inventory turns over roughly every five days, and strain names change as different farms supply us. The LIT Farms menu you see this week will look different next week.

Other shops report the same churn, from daily inventory rotation at Bulk THCA Supply to seven indoor smalls restocked in a single day at Plain Jane.

A few habits help when the menu moves this fast:

  • Buy by strain type and price rather than by name. Our Indica, Sativa and Hybrid collections make it easy to find a close match when a named strain is gone.
  • Check the lab result on every order, since a returning strain name may come from a new batch.
  • If a strain you like is in stock, buy it now instead of planning a reorder around it.
  • Browse everything in stock when the smalls menu looks thin.

SHOP THE SMALLS COLLECTION

Smalls stretch your budget furthest when the bag is whole buds and the lab result is easy to find. Our Smalls collection lists every strain we carry in the small cut, with full batch reports in our COA library.

Buying online also saves you the store run. Your ounce ships to your door sealed in the same humidity it was packed in, and orders of $125 or more ship free anywhere we deliver. Our shipping policy lists the 17 states we can't reach.

A few ways to get more out of your smalls order:

  • Budget by the ounce. Every smalls ounce on our menu lists at $49.99 or less, and the THCA figure sits right next to the price.
  • Size up when you find a keeper. If a strain wins you over, check its listing for full-size Essential, Preferred or Supreme ounces of that strain.
  • Come back for the next batch. Our menu turns over roughly every five days, so your next ounce can be a strain you haven't tried yet.

Shop Smalls now and grab your next ounce before this batch sells through.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ARE THCA SMALLS WORTH IT?

Yes, for most everyday smokers. Smalls listed for less per gram than full-size flower at every shop where we could compare both, and most flower gets ground anyway. If you're new to THCA flower or take any medication, talk to a healthcare professional before you buy.

ARE SMALL BUDS THCA FLOWER LOWER QUALITY THAN FULL-SIZE BUDS?

Not by definition. Smalls come from the same plants and harvest as bigger buds and go through the same trim and cure before they're sorted by size. Potency can still vary between batches, so read the THCA figure on the COA instead of assuming either way.

HOW ARE THCA SMALLS PRICED?

Most shops sell smalls by the 28 gram ounce. In our comparison, standard smalls list prices ran from $25 to $256.99 an ounce, and wholesale pounds listed at $350 to $600. Divide any price by the grams on the label to compare shops fairly.

HOW DO THCA SMALLS VS REGULAR BUDS COMPARE?

They come from the same plant and harvest, so the main differences are size and price. Regular buds win on looks, while smalls win on cost per gram. Our Berries and Cream smalls ounce lists at $39.99, against $139.99 for the Supreme ounce of the same strain.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SMALLS AND MICROS?

Micros are the smallest whole buds, sorted below smalls. Both are intact flower rather than shake. Micros suit rolling and pre-roll filling, while smalls look closer to regular flower in a jar.

ARE EXOTIC THCA SMALLS WORTH PAYING MORE FOR?

Only if the strain matters more to you than the price. Exotic THCA smalls usually carry newer or rarer genetics, and at Bloomz the exotic ounce lists $73 above its standard smalls ounce. Compare the THCA figure, and the terpene results where the COA includes them, before paying the premium.
